I heard him on the phone with the affair partner exchanging "I love you" & "I miss you" type of conversation. He now insisted that those words were meaningless to him & that it was spoken to generate feelings of mutual admiration. He terminated affair with the affair partner on D-Day with a very short phone call & cut all contacts. He said that his actions proves how much "not in actually love" he was -that if he was in love, he wouldn't be able to disengage so easily.
