Question:

It has nearly been 2 years since D-Day, we’ve reconciled, and we’re doing great. I confessed to my husband that my biggest fear is that he will hurt me again by relapsing. If that happens, I don’t think I could handle that again. I trust God with my spouse. At the same time I need my spouse to realize that relapse isn’t an option. He is a new man and has accountability and has completely changed, but he still has that fear of giving in to his addiction. How do couples deal with this years into recovery? Is it normal for this to happen again years later? I know there are no guarantees but I guess I just need to grab hold of some hope.
