Question
Since learning about my husbands affairs, I am struggling with dissociation. I have to drive by one of his affair partner’s home, sometimes multiple times a day. I have a physical response in my body that happens that I don’t always recognize. Sometimes I completely dissociate and realize it several kilometers later. My husband is trying to be empathetic but he really doesn’t understand the physical reaction, and believes it is something I must recognize and be aware of and ultimately control. I don’t know how to deal with this trauma response. I have CPTSD already as a result of child sexual abuse. I used to dissociate often, but that went away, now it’s back with a vengeance. When my husband gets frustrated with the response, it ends in me flooding and spiraling. I need help.
