Question:

I have had full disclosure from my husband's sex addiction about a month ago. He is enrolled on a 12 step program and has been working his way through that. We are currently separated (his choice) and he's not really sure what he wants in terms of the marriage. He says he feels great shame. However he says there is a block to him feeling empathy for me. He says he can feel empathy for something he sees on TV, but not for the pain he has caused me. Is it possible that the shame is creating a barrier to empathy? Is it possible to work through this or is there no point in even trying to heal the marriage unless he can empathize with the hurt I'm going through.
