How do I find a way to show compassion or empathy when I find myself empty of it in the moment? For me it’s usually when my spouse is on the attack. We are three years past D-Day. I’m recognizing my own sexual addiction and behaviors as a cause of my affairs and porn use over my lifetime. My spouse seems to have no understanding or compassion toward my struggles which started as an eight year old boy. The eight year old boy didn’t deserve that either. Some I’m taking responsibility for my adult actions and to be honest still struggling some. But I’m engaging in recovery on multiple fronts. I’m screaming, not literally, for acceptance and affection. But I just seem to get bludgeoned and accused of having no conscience. Or no empathy. I feel like forgiveness is absent. And it’s been a long time.Sections: Rick's Q & A timeRick's QuestionsRL_Category: Emotional RegulationQ&A Recovery LibraryRecovery FundamentalsThe Role of EmpathyRL_Media Type: Video
