What if the Wayward Spouse wants to work on the marriage, but loving me is not one of the reasons he wants to work on the marriage? His reasons for reconciliation include (1) our child, (2) coming to the realization that his affair partners did not have values that were compatible with his, (3) the financial expense of divorce in the short-term and long-term, and (4) the fact that things get really complicated after divorce with custody, visitation schedules and blended families. Should I even expect him to love me right now, if I assume reconciliation is about building a new relationship and laying to rest the old relationship? Will he ever learn to love me, if he has felt like there's always something better out there for him to try?
