Question

We have read that healthy recovery from an affair gives opportunity for much closer and more intimate relationships in our marriages. How can you explain a partner's choice to have an affair even when both spouses have acknowledged that they had a very high level of intimacy (8-10 on a 1-10 scale) with each other? What underlying reasons would allow a spouse to put a cherished relationship, one that they described as a happy marriage, at such a horrific risk?

What type of affair was it?
