Question:

I came across somewhere on the AR website, or in one of the AR lessons, or in the Expert Q&A section, you saying that we don’t need to be with someone who is compatible with us because it is about personal growth. It is also my understanding from AR that there is no such thing as “the one”. I also recall you acknowledging in one of the Expert Q&A videos that we may be more compatible with someone other than our significant other but it doesn’t mean that we can’t have an extraordinary relationship with our current mate. In your article “Pleasing versus Loving“, you told your daughter that her first beau “is not right” for her. Shouldn’t then we look for someone who is “right” for us? What is the difference between the “right person” and the “right fit”, also known as “the one”? The situation of your daughter's first relationship as written in that article describes us and our current relationship, only that we have been together for 16 years and we are deciding where to go from here given that there hasn’t been much growth as you had hoped for in your article.
